|
|
I've been spending a lot of time lately staring at potentiometer data sheets, so I thought I'd post this and see what everyone thinks...
Etaoin posted to the potentiometer topic in the Assembly area of the forum - looks like one of the part numbers leads to a different sized potentiometer - the 10k parts are 25mm tall instead of 30mm like the others. I'm going to update the parts list and change those four pots from 688-RK09D1130C2P to 688-RK09D1130A1N. I don't think this is a huge problem for those of you who have already purchased your parts, but you'll have to decide whether to trim all other pots down to that size, or to put something on top of the shaft to bring it up to the same height as the others, or whether you want to order more parts...
I pointed this out in the Assembly topic, but there are two different types of potentiometers - the ones you got with your kit are the RK09L metal shaft/threaded collar type, and the ones in the BoM are the RK09D insulated shaft/unthreaded collar type (they are what Mouser carries). Not only do the RK09L pots have a taller body height, they are also rated for three times the lifespan...
I'd like to make two offers to all of you:
1) If you want the taller 10k pot and you're buying a panel, case or buttons from me, I'll be happy to get some of the pots and add them to your order.
2) If like me, you're a perfectionist and you want the same Alps RK09L metal shaft pots everywhere, let me know and I'll add them to my order.
Doug

I'd def. like to have all RK09L types myself
the whole thing feels more solid without those flimsy plastic shaft pots on there |

If you're just wanting the taller RK09D 10k pots, there are four of them. If you want to go with all RK09L pots, there are a total of eight with three different values. Also, the one encoder is 5mm short, so if you're going in for the other pots, you may want to consider getting a replacement encoder too - Mouser doesn't have the correct one - you can look for part PEC11-4225F-N24 at other suppliers, or wait to see if I can find them. I updated the parts page with this info...

i'm in for the pots, to have a consistent feeling on all the controls
not sure about the encoder as I will trim the pots to use the re'an knobs |

Option 2 for 2 kits.
Can we call you "Master of sourcing parts disaster" now? |

hehe, but what's the point if i'll probably will remove those extra 5mm on the encoder anyway to have the re'an knobs closer to the panel
of course, if Doug gets the encoder with switch and some function is added to that switch...i'll get the encoder too |
